With garage doors already becoming a requirement in modern living, there are a lot of choices when it comes to brands and manufacturers. LiftMaster is one of the trusted names when it comes to solutions for your homes and businesses. Their garage door openers are top of the line and reliable.

If you have decided to buy a LiftMaster garage door opener for your home, setting it up might be a challenge. However, the process is easy once you get it down to the nitty-gritty steps.

Once you get the right type of garage door opener for your home, follow these five core steps in getting your garage door ready for your home:

Inspect and Ready the Tools

If you’re doing the installation yourself, you need to inspect the garage door before proceeding. Ensure that everything is in working order and that there are no broken or loose parts. Test the balance to see if the springs need adjustment or replacement.

Gather all the necessary tools for installation. This ensures the rest of the process is going to be smooth. Make sure that you have a ladder, wrenches, screwdrivers, angle iron, straps, tape measure, clamps, hacksaw, and others. Having the tools ready will make the installation faster.

Install LiftMaster Garage Door Opener

Follow the manual in assembling and installing the garage door opener. Set the opener in a ladder where you’re going to install it. This holds it in place while you are measuring the length of the angle iron. You might need to clamp the garage door in place to keep it from closing.

Then, just install the rest of the components of the garage door opener. Just follow the instructions. The kit provided by LiftMaster already has the necessary parts for the installation. Get an assistant to help you with the assembly and installation.

Reset the Garage Door Opener Code

The LiftMaster garage door kit usually comes with a remote control. The code is preset on the opener so it operates when you first use it. However, it is essential to reset the code to keep outsiders from entering your home.

After installing the garage door opener, reset the default code to secure your garage. Open the cover on your garage door motor and look for a row of toggled switches at the back.

Program a different code for your garage door opener by pressing the top or bottom of the switches. Don’t press all the switches up or down. Alternate it or go for a unique sequence that other people cannot easily guess.

Program the Garage Door Remote and Keypad

Once you have reset the default code on your garage door opener, it is time to program your remotes or keypad.

Look for the learn button on your garage door opener. This is usually found beside the LED light at the back of the motor. Press and release this button and press your desired remote button within 30 seconds. The light will blink once you have programmed the button. For multiple remotes, just follow the same procedure.

For a keypad, press and release the learn button then enter a four-digit PIN on the keypad. Press enter afterwards. The LED light will blink once the programming has been successful.

Test Everything

When you have successfully installed your garage door opener and programmed your remotes and keypad, test everything out. Test your remotes and see if the opener activates. Wait for 10 seconds after programming to test the remote and keypad. If the door does not open, repeat the programming procedures above.

You may also want to test the garage door opener and check if the parts have been properly installed. Ensure that the parts are secured and not wobbling in any way.
