Usually, a garage door that does not open or close is caused by a faulty torsion spring. So, regularly inspect its condition and ensure it is not frayed. The springs may either just need a readjustment or a complete replacement. However, this should be done by professionals and not be attempted by inexperienced homeowners. Make sure that the springs are lightly lubricated at all time to prevent it from clumping.

2. Rollers. These have to be checked twice a year and replaced every seven years. Rollers that are chipped, cracked or worn have to be replaced right away. To do this, you just have to remove and reinstall the roller brackets. If these are stuck, just soak them in kerosene using a small brush. Wipe off the parts and apply a non-silicon lubricant for metal rollers. If you have a nylon roller, just lubricate the bearings.
