The 971LM and 973LM remotes have a corresponding amber or red, square, learn button. The 371LM and 373LM have a corresponding purple, square, learn button. Learn buttons are located on the motor head near the terminal strip for wire connections. Within 30 seconds, press and hold the button on the hand-held remote. Release the button when the motor unit light blinks. It has learned the code. If light bulbs are not installed, two clicks will be heard.

Within 30 seconds, enter a four digit personal identification number (PIN) of your choice on the keypad. Then press and hold the ENTER button. Release the button when the garage door opener motor unit lights blink. It has learned the code. If light bulbs are not installed, two clicks will be heard.

You may also use a universal remote for you sears garage door opener and setting it up is not difficult. You may setup the universal remote control’s three buttons to different garage doors. The universal remote control can be setup to open a garage door by using the remote’s visor clip to press and release the recessed button. Press and release the Learn button on your first garage door opener motor unit. Then select a remote button and hold it down until the opener lights blink then press a different button on the remote to complete the programming. If the lights do not flash after a few seconds, release the button and try again. The same process shall be repeated to program the next button for another garage door. Most universal remote control cannot program one button to operate two doors at the same time.
