There are many garage door openers out in the market today that it can be difficult to choose which one to purchase. Among the brands on top of the market today are Genie and LiftMaster. These two are the most common garage door openers owned by many homeowners today. These are also the bestselling brands in the industry. If you are only choosing between these two top brands, weight both their pros and cons and find one that suits your needs. So, what makes each one tick? Let’s find out and compare both brands.

Company History

The duration of the company’s existence can speak volumes on how it delivers on its promises. This can be a gauge if they have been doing well in the industry and if they follow sound business practices. Genie has been in the business for around 90 years since it was first established in 1923. LiftMaster has also been around for quite some time spanning their service for around 40 years.

Pricing and Warranty

This probably is the first consideration of every buyer. Both the Genie and the LiftMaster garage door openers come in similar price range. Genie openers will go from $130 to $200 while the LiftMaster ones are running from $140 up to even $280. There isn’t such a big difference in their price points. However, you should also be mindful that the lowest-priced openers are those that have the basic features while most higher-priced ones come with extra features.

For the warranties, both manufacturers provide their devices and parts with one to five years of warranty. This is usually the most common length of warranty for manufacturers.

Safety and Security

These two things are heavy considerations for every homeowner. It all boils down to the safety and kind of security the garage opener provides. Because the garage door is the largest moving part of the home, it might potentially endanger kids, pets, and objects on its path. It can also be a possible entry for burglars as the garage houses expensive items, like cars, tools, and others.

For safety, the Genie has a standard Safe T-Beam System on its openers that prevents the door from closing in case something is on its path. LiftMaster, on the other hand, has a Protector System that also uses an infrared system, which prevents the door from closing if there’s an obstruction along its path. Aside from that, LiftMaster also has an automatic reverse system that acts as an additional safety layer. This reverses the door if there is an obstruction on its way.

On the security side of things, Genie uses an Intellicode rolling code technology that automatically changes the access codes every time the remote button is pressed. This prevents burglars from accessing your code and entering your home. Similarly, LiftMaster also has a similar feature with its Security + rolling code technology. In addition that, LiftMaster has the PosiLock system, which secures the door and monitors it from being manually forced open.

Features

Both brands come with similar standard features. They have similar remotes and wall control panels that come with their kits. They also carry three types of drives: chain, belt, and screw drive openers. However, higher priced garage door openers from both manufacturers already come with extra features such as LiftMaster’s Smart Control Panel that displays temperature and time.
