Complete Guide: How To Setup Your First Garage Door Wi-Fi Opener

This is one feature for your garage door that you definitely must have! Not only is it convenient, you can also control your garage door from where ever you are, even when you’re on vacation but before anything else, you need to connect your garage door Wi-Fi opener to your home network. Here’s what you need:

  • A smart phone or tablet
  • Broadband internet connection
  • A strong Wi-Fi signal in the garage
  • Your network password
  • The MyQ serial number which is located on the garage door opener next to the yellow Learn Button

Since you already have everything you need, let’s complete the connection process. It usually takes about 20 minutes to finish the connection process.

Here are the steps that you need to accomplish:

Activate your Wi-Fi learn mode

  • Using a Smart Control Panel, go to Menu > Program > Wi-Fi Setup
    Note:If your door control does not have this feature, you need to press and release the yellow learn button 3 times.
  • The garage door opener will beep once and the blue LED will blink under the black adjustment button which is located between the two arrow buttons

Connect to the MyQ Wi-Fi network

  • Go to Settings > Wi-Fi, and select the network with the MyQ-nnn prefix

Connect the garage door opener to your home Wi-Fi network

  • Launch the web browser on your device
  • Go to setup.myqdevice.com and follow the on-screen prompts to add the garage door opener to your home Wi-Fi network
    Note:Network passwords are case sensitive soplease ensure your password is entered correctly

Setup your MyQ Account

  • Download the MyQ App
  • Sign up for a MyQ account
  • Confirm your account
  • Login to the MyQ App and add your MyQ serial number to your account

Congratulations! You’ve successfully completed the setup.

  • Launch Chrome on your Android phone
  • Go to setup.myqdevice.com and follow the on-screen prompts to add the garage door opener to your home Wi-Fi network. If you are unable to pull up setup.myqdevice.com and you have an Android 5.0 or higher, the phone will load the page through a sign in feature. On an Android 5.0, there will be a Wi-Fi sign in notification on the top left of the phone advising you that you need to sign in to the network.This will take you directly to the set up page.

Setup your MyQ Account

  • Download the MyQ App
  • Sign up for a MyQ account
  • Confirm your account
  • Login to the MyQ App and add your MyQ serial number to your account

By the way, the MyQ App will not operate the garage door opener when operating under battery power so it has to be connected to a power source and the Wi-Fi garage door opener must run a complete cycle before Wi-Fi can be activated. Also, network passwords entered incorrectly will not connect the garage door opener to your home network. You will know if the password you entered was incorrect because this will be indicated with a continuous blue LED. You need to exit all programming and start over. That wasn’t so tough, was it?
