With the technology improving faster than humans can ever catch up, everything around us is becoming more interconnected. Since most people already own and carry smartphones anywhere they go, it makes sense to have everything accessible at our fingertips.
This is why home automation through smartphone is already a key element and feature. There are already phone applications that allow you to control your garage door opener anytime and anywhere. These are either independent applications or are specifically made for the brand of garage door opener that you’re using.
Here are the different applications and devices that you can use in order to control your opener:
Garageio. This device lets you control your garage door anytime and anywhere through your smartphone. You can get real time alerts, share access with anyone, and check your garage door’s activity through the day.
Setting up the Garageio is easy. Make sure that you have all the necessary tools, such as a screwdriver, stepladder, masking tape, and your smartphone. The set comes with a Blackbox, power adapter, opener cables, cable clips, sensor cables, screws, and alcohol wipes. Plug and install the Blackbox and connect this device to your home’s Wi-Fi. Then, download the Garageio app and you can start using it.
The app is available on both Android and iOS. If you are the door owner, you can add users, view door activity, and control your door through the application. As long as you have an internet, you can easily maneuver your garage door anytime.
MyQ Home Control. This feature comes with LiftMaster and Chamberlain garage door openers. Some models already come with the MyQ Home Control, while others and older ones have to be retrofitted.
If you have a MyQ-enable garage door opener, all that you need to purchase is the MyQ Internet Gateway. This lets you control your garage door through your tablet, smartphone, or your computer. Just connect your MyQ Internet Gateway to your home router, download and launch the MyQ app, and set up your personal account.
With your MyQ Home Control app, you can receive notifications regarding the status of your garage door. The app informs you if you have left your garage door open. Just tap the screen with your finger to close your garage door. Through your app, you can let friends or family enter your home and also check if you door has been properly closed real-time.
Genie Aladdin Connect. This is Genie’s feature for smartphone monitoring and is compatible to the current Genie garage door openers and with most of the residential garage door openers. Just like the other smartphone applications, you also need to install a door control module in order to connect your smartphone to your opener.
The Aladdin Connect app is available on both Apple App Store and Google Play. Through the app, you can check if someone is operating your garage door opener either manually or automatically. You also have control over your garage door and allow access for anyone, be it family or friends. The app also provides a detailed history of when each garage door was used.
Craftsman AssureLink. This smartphone control kit is one from Craftsman. It has a quick and easy setup that lets you use it right away. All that you need to do is replace your wall console with the AssureLink Motion Detecting wall console and connect the AssureLink Gateway to your home’s router. Then, setup your AssureLink account online and download the free app on your smartphone.
Every time you have internet, you can monitor the activity of your garage door on your smartphone, tablet, or computer. You can also control your garage door, whether you forgot to close it or you need it to be opened for a family member when you’re away from home.
